Dining Guide / Cellar Doors / Ballandean Estate Wines
Queensland’s oldest family-run winery is a much-loved destination in the heart of Ballandean on the famed Granite Belt.
Visitors can taste a range of known and lesser-known varieties, such as Sylvaner and Saperavi, all grown on the Puglisi family’s estate, where they’ve been producing wine since 1932.
The winery began life as Sundown Valley Vineyards but got its new name in 1988.
Awards
Winner of Queensland Winery of the Year 2013, 2105, 2016.
The adjoining restaurant, The Barrelroom, has a devoted following both for its food and the charming ambience – you are literally dining in the presence of the oldest working barrels in the state, 150-year-old beauties that are today filled with ageing liqueurs.
The winery is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, 363 days a year. A highlight of the Ballandean Estate calendar is Opera in the Vineyard, which attracts about 1000 people every May.
As a team, the Puglisi family is committed to building a successful business, raising awareness of the industry and promoting the region by organising events that attract large numbers of tourists and encourage them to return again and again.
