Lake Broadwater, surrounded by cypress pine, eucalypt and brigalow open woodland is an important wetland in inland Queensland. More than 230 species of birds have been recorded here. The lake and its surrounds was a focal point for local Aboriginal people and early European settlers.

Lake Broadwater has two camping areas: Lake Broadwater and Wilga Bush. Both have toilets, barbecues, picnic tables and tap-water (boil or treat before drinking). Lake Broadwater campsite is on a large, open grassy area overlooking the lake and is suitable for tent camping, caravans, camper trailers, motorhomes and large groups. Wilga Bush has shady, secluded campsites set within eucalypt forest.
