Just a short 40 minute drive North of Toowoomba is picturesque Bunnyconnellen Olive Grove and Vineyard, a must do weekend trip that you really need to put on your list.
Your hosts, former cattle and sheep producers Ann & Ninian Stewart-Moore, have always been passionate about the paddock to plate story. So when they first saw Bunnyconnellen their hearts were immediately captured by the peaceful location with sweeping views of the lush countryside.
And that’s exactly what happened to us when we arrived on a cool autumn day, a sense of serenity seemed to seep into our bones as we pulled up a chair under the stunning fig tree to settle in for an afternoon of wine and olive tasting.
The wines are good, deliciously good! I guess that’s why they have won over 37 awards. Kate was our expert host for our tasting experience which started with a crisp & lively sparkling brut reserve. As for the olives, these come in a variety of flavours & marinades. Our favourites were Jumbo green Kalamata olives, so plump, juicy and incredibly moorish. And the Dorsetshire Kalamata olives in a red wine vinegar, brown sugar and chilli marinade. The later pairing perfectly with the 2016 Washhouse Red Shiraz. Serious foodies you will not be disappointed.
Olive, wine tasting and lunch is available at Bunnyconnellen on the weekends from 10am to 4pm. They also cater for bespoke private functions and they have a delightful little B&B if you want to stay the night.
